Books. Family. Friends.
Today I picked up a book...something I haven't done in quite a while. It made me think...in the twenty years of my life, three friends have given me books as a gift...
Person A I knew since I was six or seven. She was the first person that I acknowledged as my best friend, and many times, she had included a book as part of my birthday or Christmas presents. But because of problems between our families, I have lost contact with her for several years.
Person B I met in high school. She was one of the people that I spent a lot of my time with. On my 18th birthday, she gave me a book and a stuffed animal that she had made herself. But because of problems within her own family, she moved away, and I have not seen her since.
You are Person C. You are the person in this world that knows me best, and the one person that I completely trust. Thank you for the book. [sigh]...But once again, a family matter has 'ruined' the friendship.
Interesting...perhaps I should start telling people not to give me books?!
[sigh]...

People who give books most probably also hold the key to your soul, hence the recurring bad luck.
It is not the book that is the problem, but the power of words, and the authority of those who can appreciate and dedicate them.
Knowledge is the ticket to freedom. Perhaps it is not the books that should be stopped, but those who go about hindering them from coming your way.
